Customs & Contest...

The kiss has long been a token of bonding for centuries - the exchange of spirits as each partner sends a part of theirJillian & Torin at the Victorian Ball in 1880's attire! self into the new spouse's soul, to live ever after.

If a cat sneezes on the day before a wedding, the bride was said to be lucky in her marriage.

The bridal veil comes from two sources. A woman's face covered by a veil meant that she was spoken for and a veil was used to disguise the bride so that she would not be recognized by the evil spirits wishing to harm the vulnerable bridal couple.

"Something old, Something new, Something borrowed, Something blue" -- goes the saying...

"Old" was often a personal gift from mother to daughter and many times a symbolic piece of wisdom for married life.

"New" symbolized the new family to be formed by the couple.

"Borrowing" is very important, since it is to come from a happily married woman and lends the bride some of marital bliss to carry into the new union.

"Blue" has two traditions associated with it:

Pagan Roman maidens wore blue on the borders of their robes to denote love, modesty and fidelity and Christians associate blue with the purity of the Virgin Mary.
