Cinderella Finds Her Prince!

I got the best phone call this morning and I have to share it with you.

On of my recently graduated brides called to let me know that her first dance to “So Close” from the Enchanted sound track went absolutely perfectly.   See below for song:

Norma and Albert were looking for Cinderella choreography do go with their Cinderella themed wedding so we came up with some romantic moves right out of a Disney flick complete with the bride holding the edge of her dress a la Belle in Beauty and the Beast as she floated along gazing at her groom.

“The bridesmaids had tears in their eyes!”, Norma said gleefully over the phone.

“We did the entrance and then all the choreography you taught us and  even the paddy cake came off well.  And I remember doing the curtsey at the end perfectly in time to the end of the music!”, she added with a lilt in her voice.

I love hearing back from my couples about their big day and I especially love living vicariously through them to feel their excitement and love for each other that all came together in their first dance.

What a joy!

As I hung up from our conversation, full of laughter and exclamations, I reminded Norma that now she is a dancer and can’t ever say she has two left feet again… she laughed and agreed saying that they would love to come back and learn some salsa next year when things have calmed down a bit.

I can’t wait :-)

E!Online Battle of the Wedding Dance Clips

Monday I got a call from E!Online regarding the recent and not so recent onslaught of YouTube wedding dance clips from “Evolution of Dance” to Michael Jackson “Thriller” knock-offs.

Yes, I agreed that these wedding dances were over the top and have been going on for at least the last two to three years.  And yes, I’ve helped put together some crazy “Evolution” twenty-two or so dance clips for at least three of my more intrepid couples.

It’s fun but it takes a lot of rehearsal, a lap top and a desire to be absolutely absurd, crazy and cool all at the same time.  But if that is your wish, as the saying goes, that is my command. :-)

The interview with Joal Ryan went on for about ten or so minutes and I told her about my couple who had their entire wedding party do an adorable dance to “I’m Too Sexy For My Hat” where we did fun formations on a pretend runway and even had a bit with everyone pretending to “drive” around the stage haphazardly for the “Too Sexy For My Car” lyrics.

Another group wanted the song “I Feel Good”.  We did some great sixties dancing to that one, the Twist, the Swim and the Mashed Potato and generally looked really laid back and groovy!

If you’d like to read more go to the article and the YouTube at this URL:

I got the last words in at the bottom of the article. ;-)

As choreographer Jillian Forbath of OurWeddingDance.com tells us: “I think there’s a lot of pressure on a bride and groom to top the last thing they saw at a wedding.”

Stickshifts and Safety Belts

It’s just loads of fun to dance a swing as your first dance and this song by Cake is a fast and furious one, I’ll admit, but it just brings a smile to your face every time you hear it.  Here’s a live version of the song on YouTube below:

My couple using this song is “graduating” tonight and I really will be sorry to see them go.

They’ve learned some wonderful swing steps and have an adorable side by side pantomime of the groom “shifting” and the bride “safety belting in and wiggle-jumping close to him” that makes you want to clap and hollar.

They’ll be winging their way out of state for their wedding soon and have promised to practice their dance  once they get settled in.

I’m sure they will because every lesson they’ve showed up with their parts well rehearsed, ready for more.

With the “helicopter” and “sugar push” as some of their signature steps I’m confident that their guests will be wowed and they’ll have a great momento of their wedding dance.

Maybe they’ll let me take a video of their dance tonight and you can see for yourself!

Our Wedding Dance Has A Blog!

I can’t wait to tell you all about the fun and exciting wedding dances that I’ve been working on lately.  From San Clemente to Apple Valley and Santa Monica to Corona del Mar… the brides and grooms are pouring out in the heat and humidity to put their feet on the dance floor.

A sampling of the songs my couples have used in the last few months are:  Butterfly, I’m Yours, Hot Stuff, A New Day Has Come, So Close and Lucky.

They’ve wowed their loved ones and friends with some great Rumba, Foxtrot, Hustle, Waltz and Swing moves.  And all this in 90 degree weather!

I’ll be covering some different first dances and first dance news several times a week so check back often and feel free to leave some questions you might have about your first dance.

Until then, keep listening to some great music and imagine that dance of your dreams becoming a reality!  :-) Jillian
